This dog is called the wiener dog because it is long bodied and short legged. This dog is so popular that it was even included in the top 10 breeds of 2004.

This dog was originally used to chase badgers in Germany during the 15th century. The name of the dog dachshund means badger dog. They were also used to hunt wild boars, foxes and rabbits. Their long bodies are used to chase these animals when they burrow underground. This is still being employed in Germany up to now.

These dogs have a very strong front that makes them work very well underground. If you look at the dog from affront the wrist are closer than the shoulder joints. Because of that, the dog looks like it has crooked legs. The coat of this dog could either be wirehaired, shorthaired or longhaired. This dog can come in a variety of color combinations. It could be black, chocolate, red, etc.

The dog can be measured about 5 inches when it is measured from the ground to the top of the shoulder. This dog can weigh about 16 to 32 pounds.

This breed of dog is very strong willed and outgoing. Some even consider this dog as a stubborn one. This breed enjoys participating with the family’s activities and is also very curios. This dog is a good watchdog. However gardeners may be a little irate with this dog because of its periodic diggings.

These dogs are smart which makes them very easy to train. They are willing to learn. You may have a hard time training tem but can be very fun as well.
