The Japanese Chin

Among the most popular toy dogs is the breed called Japanese Chin. Such a dog can be spotted easily because it exudes both elegance and arrogance at the same time. The elegance is most probably due to its long, lush, silky, and stylishly straight coat. While the arrogance is displayed by the way it walks. That is, the Japanese Chin lifts its feet quite high, indicating its confidence in its own strength.

Many owners of a Japanese Chin would like to describe their pets as dogs with a natural flair and nobility. And these owners are most probably right. The Japanese Chin is considered as one of the smarter dogs. It easily wins affection simply because it has a happy disposition. This merriment about life can surely take away whatever melancholy that has descended on its master.

The head of the Japanese Chin is relatively large. One might say that the broad and round skull appears disproportionate to its dainty body. But anyone can immediately forget the size when this dog zooms in its eyes on a person. This particular breed seems to master that look of amazement that never fails to impress any dog lover. In reality, such “look of amazement” is due to the white color that appears at the inner corners of the eyes.

The other distinct facial features include large nostrils that are often black in color. But there are a few Japanese Chins that have red and white markings on their nostrils. The muzzle is also wide and such is the reason why the eyes are located relatively far from each other.

The triangular-shaped little ears do not droop. These are carried high but seem to slightly lean forward. These are also draped and protected by the lush and long hairs. The Japanese Chin upholds its neck in a manner that conveys pride and assurance. Such contributes to the overall effect that this particular dog belongs to the canine version of blue bloods.

Veterinarians describe the chest of Japanese Chins as “cobby”. That is, the chest is quite wide. The length of its body is almost equal to that of its height. The overall appearance is a solidly built and square-like body. Despite such a sturdy looking body, this dog have delicately-boned straight legs and exquisite feet. Such legs and feet appear to be its most vulnerable parts, but these are concealed by its long-haired coat.

The Japanese Chin usually weighs between four to seven pounds. But among dog owners, the preference is for the daintier ones.
