Personality and Temperament of the Border Terrier

The vivacious temperament of the Border Terrier is what many owners love about this mild-mannered breed. In the company of children, they are particularly affectionate. Since the Border Terrier aims to please, they are fundamentally easy to train.

From a puppy, they should be socialized to urban living so they will be accustomed to the raucous noises of the city to circumvent timidity as an adult. This Border Terrier is so non-aggressive that it may leave with an intruder.

Other Breed Characteristics

The average height of the Border Terrier, varies based on the gender of the breed. For instance the height of the female is 11 to 14 inches and the male is 13-16. The weight of the male 13 to 16 pounds and bitches are two to three pounds lighter. The average life expectancy of the Border Terrier is more than 15.

Breed’s Health Problems
Commonly, the Border Terrier has a high pain threshold; therefore, it will be hard to identify when the breed is ill. As a result, the Border Terrier’s health should be monitored closely. The breed may be prone to a hereditary canine disease such as Canine Epileptoid Cramping Syndrome - CECS or "Spike's Disease.”

Ideal Living Conditions
As long as the Border Terrier is given ample exercise, the breed will do well in urban living or an apartment. A daily brisk walk or a small yard will make up for their slight indoor inactivity. Since the Border Terrier was bred originally to hunt, it has significant endurance and vitality.
